There are two types of ground flagpoles: sectional and telescoping. These names were taken directly from their designs. Sectional flagpoles work by moving each section from one to the other, using locks that lock each section in place. Telescoping flagpoles are able to spread each segment independently of the others, which is a major difference from a sectional flagpole. The topmost level is narrowed to the base. Telescoping flagpoles are not required to use ropes to lift or lower flags. There are no lines that need to be twisted, clanged or replaced.
